Review: Cybercrime and public – private partnerships (3 CPD points)

Free
Of all the types of crime, cybercrime continues to increase at the fastest rate. According to INTERPOL’s recent assessment of the global cyberthreat landscape,3 cybercriminals are developing and boosting their attacks at an alarming pace, exploiting the fear and uncertainty caused by the unstable social, economic and health situation around the world. Against cybercrime, the solution can only come from public-private cooperation. The private sector plays a fundamental role in the ability to understand and act against cybercriminals. Only by ensuring that leading companies work side by side with law enforcement can we effectively respond to the cybercrime threat.

World Economic Forum:

The latest trend in fighting cybersecurity leans towards the development of a collaboration model between the public and private sector.  The role of the private sector is increasingly acknowledged as critical.  This research paper provides a summary of the fundamentals, and is supported by some international best practices.

Who should benefit?

External auditors and financial accountants should consider the content in terms of external risk that might affect the future sustainability of their client companies and the role that they can play in the bigger picture.

Internal auditors should consider these perceptions in the design of the three-year rolling plan and the risk-based audit plan.  We attach the report for your convenience, and it can be downloaded and/or read online.  This is available without cost, but should you like to claim 2 CPD points, you must complete the online questionnaire (multiple choice).  The online questionnaire relates directly to the content of the WEF report.  It can also be accessed under the curriculum button above.

The cost for the questionnaire and the corresponding CPD certificate is R90 per person.  This can be procured online, or you can direct an email to us at cs@nsa.edu.za.  Our admin office will then revert back with an official quote and invoice which can be settled via normal EFT processes.

The course was insightful, and it is important for specifically government in South Africa to engage with the private sector. The problem of cybersecurity needs high-end skills and capital.
