I am not in a position to answer the above questions. There should have been an option: I do not know, as I truly do not know whether our leadership is actually performing the duties as mentioned in the questions.
I agree with Morne, if these issues are being addressed in some sort of manner it is not directed or should I say communicated to our level. I have not been been exposed to any Code of ethics within the organisation and I think these questionnaires would probably portay a false rating?
I would have to agree with Morne , I feel that perhaps this information would not be directed or communicated at our level. I have not been exposed to any Code of ethics within the organisation, would answering the questionnaires not portray a false rating?

To the extent that the Board has received clean audits for the past 5 years or so, but there is always a room for improvement, particularly around the need for consultation with staff in a view to build consensus on issues that directly affect staff. I think the only concerned I have is around the fact that we do not subscribe to the Compliance Institute of South Africa and that there is no Compliance Framework in place to ensure that our processes are in line with the prescripts of CISA. This point relates to the Compliance Department of the Board.
I agree with the comments above. Except for the known fact that the Board outsources the internal audit function and the Board has had clean audits for a number of years, I am not able to offer a response to the other questions as the issues are dealt with by upper management. I agree with Mr Matiwane that the Board’s processes should be aligned with an organisation like CISA or IIA
I dont know. My role and responsibilities does not allow me to be a part of these management decisions, therefore, my Neither agree not disagree has become my I DONT KNOW.
Generally, the independence of the Internal audit function is influenced by the criteria they were sourced on. If price was key criteria, it is not unreasonable to expect that some areas could be compromised sacrificing the depth/quality of the audit. The independence of an Internal Audit firm could also be influenced by prospective renewal of such contract. This is not the type of information which filters down to my level. With reference to leadership being familiar with all the Integrated Reporting principles and the Audit Committee’s advisement on ethical leadership, that I do not know.
In any Organization there has to be an Operational Risk Management process that is understood not only by top management, but every employee in the organization must have some level of understanding of the risks faced by the organization. Those risks must be properly Identified so that they can be properly defined. The identified risks must be Evaluated, so that the impact of the risk can be quantified and the potential frequency and severity of the exposure can be known. Controls must also be in place in order to eliminate and minimize the potential effect of the identified risks. The entire process present itself to be difficult when it is only understood by top management and is not cascaded down to all the employees. We are mindful of the fact that strategic decisions are made from the top, however, everyone has to be aware of this process and play his part in order to ensure that the strategic objectives of the organization is realized.
I agree with the above comments, as I’m not in anyway in a position to agree or disagree, to the above questionnaire. Top management or leadership involved with Risk management, strategic planning objectives, identifying of risk, and aligning it to the organization’s objective etc, would be the only parties that can report on the organization’s objectives.
